General information:

• This course is an obligatory course for Computer Security Master Programme.
• The course is in English.
• Our goal is to develop knowledge and practical skills for composing secure systems from cryptographic components according to the risks of all kinds and according to practical needs.

Basic literature:

• some electronic teaching material will be available here, access with a password

Requirements:

• Presence during the lectures is obligatory.
• The final grade is determined by:
  • the number of points got for the lab (up to 50 points)
  • the number of points during written exam (up to 50 points)
  after summing them up.
• In order to pass the course it is necessary to obtain at least 30% of possible points for the exam and the number of points for the lab determined by dr Kubiak.
• The following scale applies:
  • [40,50) - 3.0
  • [50,60 ) - 3.5
  • [60,70 ) - 4
  • [70,80 ] - 4.5
  • over 80 - 5
  • 5.5 will be given for extraodrinary achievements
• For written exam the following grades apply for each question:
  • 3: completed - complete and correct answer, insignificant errors or gaps are tolerated
  • 2: major part of the problem solved - problem solved, but with some gaps and non-critical errors,
  • 1: some parts of the problem solved
  • 0: otherwise
• The exam will check understanding, skills, creativity related to problem solving. THe exam will consist of a few questions concering different areas not covered by the practical exercises during the lab.
• It is unnecessary to remember details of algorithms, protocols, technical manuals, ... but it will be necessary to understand them. Usually, the details which are hard to remember, will be recalled on the question sheet. It will be allowed to use any materials on paper (books, notices, ...) any use of electronic devices will be strictly forbidden unless stated otherwise.
• The detailed rules for the lab are determined by dr Kubiak.
• IPR: no work can be accepted in case of violation of intelectual property rights by the student.

• get skills in creating secure systems out of secure components,
• get some practical experience as well as advanced knowledge.
